Short answer, no. Though small, the case was carefully designed to ensure proper airflow. Even the hardware was chosen for specific reasons other than their performance. Whenever possible, low power components were examined in conjunction with their performance. Lower power components generate less heat, and less heat is a good thing!
While the ION systems use typical components that you can find in any modern desktop, they
were chosen to work together specifically with this design in mind. The DVD-Rom for instance
uses a standard SATA II cable, so while you can can connect just about any CD/DVD drive, the case
was crafted for a slot-loading DVD-Rom. The motherboard uses a standard LGA 1155 socket but not
all CPUs draw the same amount of power. A 95w TDP CPU may be too much for the system and could
cause problems. There is one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot you can use for a discreet graphics card or a TV
tuner card, but again keep in mind the power requirements of whatever you install.
The Eclipse system uses a motherboard with an embedded Atom processor, but the harddrive, memory,
and wifi(mini-pcie) are all standard components.
The ION case is 8.97"x5.0"x8.11" (WxHxD) while the smaller Particle case is 7.87"x3.15"x7.00".
